To the editor of THE EAGLE:
It was with pleasant surprise that I read the "In Brief" article in last Thursday’s Eagle which told of four more local towns that are to receive life-saving oxygen masks for cats and dogs. As a veterinary technician of almost 20 years, I have seen the heart-breaking aftermath of pets rescued from house fires alive, only to then suffer and (inevitably) succumb to respiratory system damage within a short time afterwards.
I believe equipping first-responders with these masks will greatly improve our beloved pets’ odds of surviving such a horrific event. The generosity of the folks at Massachusetts Veterinary Medical Association Charities who donated the equipment is certainly to be applauded, and on behalf of animal lovers across the Berkshires I believe a big "Thank You" is most certainly due.
