To the editor of THE EAGLE:
From the end of August through most of September there will be three large events featuring animal use/abuse in Western Massachusetts: The Three County Fair in Northampton; bull-riding at the MassMutual Center in Springfield; and at the Big E in West Springfield there will be the Royal Hanneford Circus, the Commerford & Sons Petting Zoo and the "Bear Country" trailer. All of these events, featuring different species of mostly large (and some small) animals, are completely contrary to the way these animals would naturally live. The conditions they must endure, the terrible confinement and isolation, are the opposite of their nature.
On behalf of the animals, I’m asking you not to patronize these events. Please boycott this sorry situation, and let everyone know why you’re not going. If attendance is down, these events won’t return.
