To the editor of THE EAGLE:
The Nobel Peace Prize President is determined to meet Syrian violence with our lethal United States war machine. He seeks congressional approval to hide behind. If past history informs future action the hawks will prevail. Reluctant arms will be twisted. No congressman wants to be called un-American and meeting violence with even more violence is the American way. Do we want to create even more Syrian refugees by our action than the 7 million suffering now?
If this was still a democracy the American people would be truly respected. If the majority did not want war diplomacy would be the prevailing decision. Remember what we did to the Vietnamese and our own U.S soldiers with Agent Orange? Remember our deadly use of white phosphorus in Iraq? Remember all of the innocent people we have been killing with drones in sovereign nations?
Remember the violence here at home because we are a country that loves its guns more than keeping our children, our fellow citizens and neighbors safe? To see the state of our world with clear vision is to weep.
