To the editor of THE EAGLE:
I am writing in regard to the August 30 Eagle article, "AG finds meeting law violations." As a member of the Reid School Council, I was present at that meeting. As we met, Terry Kinnas arrived (unprofessional to say the least) and informed us of our faults.
Present in the room were teachers and parents volunteering their time to make Reid Middle School a better place. As a group we certainly did not violate the open meeting law intentionally. After being bullied by a member of the School Committee we realized our mistake.
I am proud to be a parent of a Reid Middle School Student. Reid is the only Level 1 middle school in the county. We work closely with our business partner Berkshire Health Systems to provide outstanding opportunities to the students of Reid.
We have also received a $500,000 grant from DESE for a 21st Century Program. This is an after school learning initiative for students of Reid Middle School. This major undertaking could not have happened without the support of staff and parents.
Maybe Mr. Kinnas could have provided training for schools on the open meeting policies in his spare time. The Reid Middle School Council has many exciting things planned for this coming year. We are not discouraged by this bump in the road, we will continue to be stronger than ever. The best is yet to come.
