To the editor of THE EAGLE:
Once again America is, and Americans are, at a crossroad with destiny. Do we as a nation stand behind our president and face down a tyrannical madman who commits atrocities against men, women, and children without regard, or do we stand aside as the carnage continues unabated, and potentially expands, eventually engulfing the entire Middle East, once again?
History is recorded in an attempt to guide us to avoid the mistakes of the past. I applaud the president for placing this important decision before Congress as we will now have the opportunity to really see if members have what it takes to make the right choice!
As a nation, many of us are tired of the endless spate of conflicts that we’ve become involved in. At the same time we’re sickened by the seemingly endless loss of life, especially the loss of on non-combatants. What to do, what to do? Hopefully the men and women of Congress will review their history, contemplate their moral and ethical values, possibly consult a higher authority, and make a choice that they, and we, can live with both today and in the future.
Maybe they’ll draw their own "line in the sand," although I suspect not! This debate should be interesting, and the outcome even more so. Let history be written!
