To the editor of THE EAGLE:
If President Obama had announced prior to his second election that he was planning a military strike against Syria, I would have dropped my vote for him without any hesitation, let alone remorse.
Like any president, Obama has made his share of mistakes during his term. But this? The United States has already suffered a financial crisis due to the war with Iraq and so many others prior to that. When is enough going to be enough? Intervening in Syria will do nothing but increase the amount of bloodshed and death that have already taken place! Millions more children and their families will be killed, more and more homes and businesses destroyed. If this crisis in Syria ever ends, with or without U.S. intervention, there could literally be nothing left in that country but dead bodies and a lot of dirt. Has Obama or even President Assad taken that into consideration?
In 2011, a beautiful little Syrian boy, just 7 years old, was killed by soldiers for bringing food and water to protesters. Prior to that, a 13-year-old boy, Hamza al Khateeb, was killed for just being with the protesters. U.S. intervention will only increase things like that!
I consider this plan of his a total betrayal of this country, of the people, of the world. The times I voted for him, being Democratic, I felt Obama was something of a decent leader. Now that he’s come to this, I wish I’d never heard his name.
