To the editor of THE EAGLE:
The Sept. 10 article concerning the software tax states that "four other states tax computer system design," including Hawaii. It is misleading to include Hawaii, which does not have a sales tax. It has a general excise tax which is levied at every level of exchange from manufacturer to retailer in all categories of goods and services. (It supposedly is not paid by the end-consumer.)
I do not completely understand the GET, but I do know from having lived in Hawaii that it is very different from a sales tax.
