PITTSFIELD -- Warren C. Dews Jr. has been named to the newly created position of vice president of audience development, sales and marketing at New England Newspapers Inc.
Dews, 43, has been in the newspaper business since 1993. He joined The Eagle in January 2010 and had been serving as NENI's vice president of circulation.
"I am very proud of Warren's accomplishments and I personally appreciate Warren's commitment and outstanding contributions in the three years he has served as VP of circulation," said Kevin Corrado, the president of New England Newspapers Inc., and publisher of The Berkshire Eagle and the North Adams Transcript.
"He is very deserving of this promotion and I know he will only continue to exceed everyone's expectations," Corrado said.
In his new position, Dews will be in charge of sales and marketing for NENI's four daily newspapers and websites in Massachusetts and Vermont and will help grow readership over all of the organization's digital and print platforms. New England Newspapers includes The Eagle, Transcript, Bennington (Vt.) Banner, Brattleboro (Vt.) Reformer, Advocate Weekly and Manchester (Vt.) Journal.
"My other job is to grow awareness for advertisers however they need to reach their customers," Dews said. "We have the equipment vehicles to help them with their business."
One of his goals is for local businesses to view NENI's publications as more than just a "legacy product."
"We're more than that," Dews said.
"The difference is that other people are trying to sell them digital, but we live here," he said. "We live in the community. We buy their products."
Born and raised in The Bronx, N.Y., Dews spent 14 years of his career working for publications in the Gannett newspaper chain, including two papers located in central New York state.
Dews also has previous experience in the sales and advertising fields, having sold advertising for a magazine on Long Island.
In 2004, Dews was named one of Presstime's "Top 20 Under 40" by the Newspaper Association of America. Locally, Dews sits on the boards of Pittsfield Community Television, Downtown Pittsfield Inc., and the Pittsfield School Building Needs Committee. Dews is also a minister and is a member at Price Memorial AME Zion Church in Pittsfield.
A 1988 graduate of New York City's Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music, which was featured in the movie "FAME," Dews signed as a recording artist with Atlantic Records in 1995 and has sung on stage with Billy Preston and Patti LaBelle.
He graduated from Virginia State University in 1993 with a bachelor's degree in business administration.
Dews and his wife, Roberta, live in Hinsdale with their three children, Warren III, West and Kennedy.
