To the editor of THE EAGLE:
I suggest that the Berkshire Carousel be located overlooking the lake at Pontoosuc Park on Hancock Road in Pittsfield. There is a large, rarely used parking lot there which, I assume, belongs to the city. Also, there are picnic tables where patrons could eat if a snack bar and gift shop were added to help fund and maintain the carousel. There is a lot of traffic on Route 7, especially in the summer, so it would have high visibility.
It would attract both local residents and tourists back to the park, which used to be one of the highlights of Pittsfield and now is sorely underused. I remember when I was a child there was a merry-go-round at that location.
It has one of the best views in Berkshire County. To me, it’s the perfect spot.
