To the editor of THE EAGLE:
The William Stanley Business Park is like an artist’s blank palette. We, as a city, must determine what goes on it. I personally do not have any grand ideas, but a simple and most-needed one.
My son has been a member of the Pittsfield High School football team for three years now. I never understood why this wonderful high school and amazing team of dedicated players never had their own football field. We go to other towns not nearly as large as we are and they have great facilities for their football team.
In case anyone is unaware of where PHS goes for its home games it’s Wahconah Park. They do a fine job marking the field with the white chalky lines and they do provide bleachers for those in attendance, but it still is a baseball field.
Each night before a PHS game parents take turns providing a pasta dinner for the entire team and their coaches. The first time I did this gig, I was delighted to find all those young men extremely polite and thankful. They lift weights all summer long, stay after school every day to practice, and know the value of being a team.
Would it be possible if somehow some way this city could provide a field for PHS? I know it’s needed. I also know it would be greatly appreciated by fans, parents and the most wonderful players of our PHS football team.
As a quick aside, they won each of their first two games! Go Pittsfield! DENISE BILLOW
