LEE -- A South County man escaped serious injury after crashing his car into a utility pole on Tyringham Road Monday evening.

Around 7:10 p.m., Henry Wolfer, 54, of Monterey, was heading home when he suddenly lost control of his vehicle a quarter-mile from the Tyringham town line, according to Lee police. Wolfer crossed the center line and slammed into the pole. The impact caused the car to flip on its side.

Officer Craig DeSantis says firefighters from Lee and Tyringham rescued the driver, who was treated at the scene for minor injuries by the Lee Volunteer Ambulance Squad. He noted Wolfer was wearing a seat belt and the airbags deployed upon impact.

While the crash remains under investigation, DeSantis said Wolfer won't face charges as a result of the accident.

The affected section of Tyringham Road was closed to through traffic for about 45 minutes, reopening shortly after 8 p.m.
