To the editor of THE EAGLE:
Have you heard the saying that New England is the "preacher’s graveyard?" This is where preachers come to retire the fight and die, or so they say. Having read Alex Beam’s editorial page column, "Return of rapture people" in the Sept. 13 Eagle and seeing no response from anyone, I’m led to believe the saying has some merit.
It is no surprise to any true Christian, or to God Himself, that many of our Christian beliefs are not readily accepted by the carnally minded. Jesus clearly stated, "Whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child, he shall not enter therein." There are many other clear-cut statements by Christ as to why God opposes man in this way. Non-religious people underestimate religious people.
Make no mistake, whether a Christian who avoids sin all his life to please God or a radical Islamist who blows himself up engaged in Jihad, most devout believers of all religions have had a spiritual experience. Maybe an inner witness? Maybe an outward miracle? There is a reason why people have strong devotion. It’s why Christianity survived incredible persecution. It’s why a Jihadist blows himself up. There really is a spiritual world: Surprise! Or wake up!
The question then becomes: Which religion is correct? Who has the true faith or a counterfeit? Jesus preached that there are other spirits vying for your eternal soul. Beam says that he "love[s] the Bible." In my opinion, he openly condescended to and mocked all true Christians, and then offered a pleasantry to get himself off the hook. So why write the article in the first place?
Clearly, Obama’s White House is not judging foreign policy by Scripture. Ignorance of the Bible in foreign affairs will level a nation. While grace abounds throughout the world, the physical land of Israel is still under ancient promises made by God to His friend Abraham. A fool in the White House, forcing Israel to give up land or vexing Israel the wrong way, and it will quickly become "an eye for an eye" as far as God is concerned. More troubles will come to the U.S. in various forms, and the foolish Americans won’t be the wiser.
Of course we know you cannot accept this. Nevertheless, I’m giving you God’s honest truth.
