LENOX -- The eighth annual BrockTrot races to raise funds for cancer research will be held Sunday morning.
"Our goal is to raise money for research and early detection," said race Chairman John Toole, the co-founder of the Brock Wilkerson Memorial Cancer Research Fund. "Not only are we out there to spread awareness and raise funds, but to have some fun and celebrate the life of Brock Wilkerson."
Wilkerson, a Stockbridge resident, died from lung cancer on Aug. 11, 2005, at the age of 47 after a two-year battle against the disease.
He was a well-known member of the community, having competed in 13 marathons and served on numerous nonprofit boards.
Since its founding, the fund has raised nearly $300,000 for single-cell lung cancer research.
More than 500 participants are expected to assemble at Shakespeare & Company to participate in certified 10K, 5K races and the 1.5-mile Kids Race as well as a 5K community pledge walk through Lenox.
Entry fees are $30 for the 10K event, $20 for the 5K race and $15 for the community walk. Registration is available at www.brocktrot.
