To the editor of THE EAGLE:
When I turned on CNN recently the first thing I heard was Wolf Blitzer's endless repetition of unanswerable questions and I knew something potentially big was afoot. The only facts available at that time were that a car with Connecticut plates ran a barrier near the White House and shots were fired. The driver was a 34-year-old female, and that was it.
Upon considering several possible scenarios evolving, the one that I hit on first was that the driver was the mother of one of the victims of the Newtown shooting, now nearing it's first sad anniversary, and that she had "snapped" and was in D.C. gunning for House Republicans. It is not inconceivable to me that the odiousness of those gun-happy lunatic politicos would finally take its toll on the mind of an otherwise normal, law-abiding person whose child was blown apart by a deranged individual in possession of a weapon those same lunatic politicos are convinced that Washington, Jefferson, Franklin, Adams and all the rest meant for them to possess.
And if this were truly the situation what better poetic justice could there possibly be than for one of those NRA toadies in Congress to meet his end the same way those little children met theirs, and with them knowing that they themselves killed any legislation that might have prevented it in the first place?
My thoughts then moved to the motorcycle melee in New York City and I thought that if that episode occurred in a place like Florida, with their moronic "stand your ground" laws, and where a large part of its dimwit population is armed, there could have developed a shoot-out the likes of which hasn't been seen since the O.K. Corral.
Such is life in these United States in the 21st century; not "united" in any sense of the word; rather a divided nation where in order to survive the onslaught of corporate interests, banking interests and venal politicians, it's coming down to "every man for himself." CHUCK LIEBOWITZ
