To the editor of THE EAGLE:
I went to the opera "Eugene Onegin" at the Beacon Cinema on Saturday and it dawned on me during a scene featuring a duel that it is too bad that the leaders of the factions of the Republican Party cannot just duel it out between themselves rather than shut down the whole government. Why don't Sen. Ted Cruz of the tea party and Speaker of the House John Boehner just settle this between themselves rather than hold the country hostage?
Power corrupts people, as we know. Just because they can does not mean they should. Whatever happened to the concept of statesmanship? ANNA POLLOCK
