LEE -- All three people in a Tuesday crash that involved a moose, including a 20-month-old boy, escaped serious injury, according to family members.

The driver, Holly Johnston of Lee, and passengers Brittany Madewell and her 20-month-old son are fine, according to Johnston, who contacted The Eagle on Thursday.

Madewell's mother, who also reached out to The Eagle, said all three were treated and released from Berkshire Medical Center after the crash,

Information reported in Thursday's edition was incorrect. Johnston says her son was in school at the time of the accident; the child in the car was Madewell's, who was not mentioned in the story.

Johnston struck the moose abound 12:55 p.m. on Route near the Big Y supermarket. The moose died on impact and the Hyundai that Johnston was driving was a total loss. The driver of a second vehicle involved in the accident also escaped serious injury.

State environmental police took custody of the moose's body, hauled away by a state highway crew.
