Williams College's men's hockey team is taking things outside in January - in the shadow of the Green Monster.
The Ephs will play Trinity College at Fenway Park on Jan. 7, 2014, as part of the 17-day Frozen Fenway 2014 event.
"We're really excited to be playing in such an iconic location as Fenway Park and go back to hockey's roots and play a league game outside," Ephs coach Bill Kangas said in a press release.
Williams was slated to host Trinity on Jan. 11 in Williamstown, but when Fenway Sports Management approached NESCAC about an outdoor game in Boston, Williams Athletic Director Lisa Melendy said both Williams and Trinity agreed to move the game.
"We couldn't be more excited for this unique opportunity, for our athletes and college community to be a part of a tremendous event," Melendy said in a press release.
The Jan. 7 game is part of an NCAA Division III doubleheader at Fenway. UMass-Boston and Salem State play at 4 p.m., followed by the Ephs and Bantams at 7:30 p.m. From Dec. 28 to Jan. 11, Fenway will host high school and college men's and women's hockey games, as well as community skates.
The 2010 NHL Winter Classic was the most notable outdoor hockey game to be held at Fenway. The Boston Bruins beat the Philadelphia Flyers in overtime in that event.
