BOSTON (AP) -- Boston’s outgoing mayor will be hosting a lecture at the University of Massachusetts-Lowell.
University officials say Thomas Menino will reflect on his career of public service and talk about his future beyond City Hall.
The event is scheduled for noon Monday.
Menino was the city’s first Italian-American mayor and has spent 20 years in his current role, after previously serving as Boston’s City Council president.
He got the nickname "Urban Mechanic" by concentrating on things like fixing potholes and cleaning streets.
Bostonians will go to the polls in early November to elect Menino’s successor.
