To the editor of THE EAGLE:
I will be voting for Nicholas Caccamo for Pittsfield Ward 3 councilman. Nick has shown interest in city politics for many years and has faithfully attended City Council meetings. In the debate shown on local television he said he will devote all his free time to his constituents. He is young and energetic and able to express his views well, which is important when meeting with others, especially in council meetings. His approach would be toward consensus rather than argumentative. People in Ward 3 would find him easy to meet and able to listen to all points of view.
I was really impressed after reading the many glowing letters praising Ward 1 Councilwoman Christine Yon. Evidently she has worked tirelessly for her constituents and they are appreciative of her many efforts. Although I don’t live in Ward 1, I wonder what causes someone to run against an incumbent who has shown she is qualified in every way -- work ethic, the way she approaches a problem and how hard she works toward the best possible solution. Appreciation for what she has done is shown by her many supporters. And her efforts to keep a methadone clinic out of her ward were commendable.
The headline of a recent article said that her opponent is for manufacturing. Everyone is for manufacturing, which would bring the best-paying jobs to Pittsfield. Many cities are hoping to get manufacturing in their locales and the competition is fierce. We can only keep striving to do what’s best for Pittsfield in the long run.
I hope voters will make Nicholas Caccamo the new Councilman in Ward 3 and return Christine Yon to the council.
