To the editor of THE EAGLE:
I am writing this letter to support the reelection of Christine Yon as Ward 1 city councilor.
I serve on the board of a homeowners association, populated primarily by seniors, located in Ward 1. Over the last four years I have called upon Christine to help us with issues confronting our neighborhood. She responded promptly to all emails and phone calls.
Because she is knowledgeable of, and respected by city departments, we have had help to address our problems. She was the resource we used to find the right people and information for us to get timely action and answers. A partial list of examples include: unlicensed and loud motorcycles trespassing our properties; wildlife that appeared to be stricken with rabies; non-operating streetlights; gas company and cable maintenance problems, motor vehicles speeding within the neighborhood area; sidewalk safety issues; extreme water runoff that was infiltrating our homes, and road patching, to mention a few. I have talked with friends living throughout Ward 1 and learned she has responded similarly in their neighborhoods.
Councilor Yon has served extremely well over the last four years, and if reelected, I’m confident she will continue to be effective. She does her homework, gathering facts and information and is always prepared to discuss and vote competently on ward and city-wide topics at City Council meetings.
I was encouraged when The Eagle reported that she earned 60 percent of the Ward 1 votes cast in the primary election. Many supporters expected her to win the primary handily and to their credit, she did. That was then, but now I encourage Ward 1 voters to get to Reid Middle School to cast their vote for Councilor Yon in the Nov. 5 election to ensure she gets the opportunity to represent us for another term.
