To the editor of THE EAGLE:
We want leaders today who understand the financial pressures business owners and families face, such as rising energy, food and college expenses. Barry Clairmont understands. As a Certified Public Accountant it is his job to understand. He has become the fiscal watchdog of the Pittsfield City Council.
With the skills Barry Clairmont possesses as an accountant, he is able to find excess spending in the city budget, and for the first time cut unnecessary spending of $200,000. He is progressive in his thinking, knowing a vibrant community is only accomplished if fiscal discipline is followed and money is spent wisely. He realizes we need to take care of not only our physical capital like our buildings and parks, but also our budding entrepreneurs, while at the same time, we must make sure that our fiscal decisions don’t burden our elderly on fixed budgets. Who else could be more qualified than someone with the expertise that Councilor Clairmont possesses?
We are lucky as a community, as he is willing to give of himself and serve in such a great capacity. We should all jump at the opportunity to keep Barry on the City Council. It’s not every day that the city gets a CPA willing to serve. Please vote for Barry Clairmont for councilor at large on Nov. 5.
