Mount Greylock's soccer teams have earned No. 2 seeds in both the Western Mass. boys and girls Division III soccer tournaments, according to brackets released Wednesday by the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association.
In all, nine boys teams and nine girls teams from Berkshire County are in the Western Mass. brackets in Divisions I, III and IV.
Mount Greylock and Monument Mountain's boys are seeded second and third, respectively, in Division III, and have earned first-round tournament byes. Wahconah, the No. 7 seed in the bracket, meets No. 10 Sabis for the right to meet Greylock in the quarterfinals. Hoosac Valley, at No. 8, plays No. 9 Athol for the right to face top seed Belchertown.
In Division III girls, No. 2 Greylock, No. 3 Hoosac and No. 5 Wahconah are all in the quarterfinals. No. 7 seed Taconic plays No. 10 Athol for the right to meet Greylock.
Both Pittsfield High School teams have earned top-five seeds in the Division I draw. The PHS boys, unbeaten this season, are the No. 4 seed and play No. 5 Minnechaug in the quarterfinals. The Pittsfield girls, who won 14 games for the first time in coach Andy Waluszko's tenure, are the No. 5 seed and play No. 12 Renaissance in a first-round game. The winner plays Chicopee, the No. 4 seed which has one of four first-round byes in the D-I draw.
Despite a first-round loss Tuesday in the state vocational tournament, the McCann Tech boys have earned the No. 3 seed in Division IV, and a first-round bye. The Hornets, with one loss against 15 wins this season, play either No. 6 Lenox or No. 11 Holyoke Catholic in the quarterfinals.
No. 9 Mount Everett travels to No. 8 Pioneer Valley in the first round, while No. 12 Lee heads to No. 5 Smith Academy.
In Division IV girls, No. 4 Mount Everett will host No. 5 Smith Academy in a quarterfinal. No. 9 Lee travels to No. 8 Holyoke Catholic, with the winner facing top seed Monson in the quarterfinals. No. 7 seed Lenox hosts No. 10 Mohawk, with the winner facing No. 2 Cathedral in the quarterfinal round. McCann, at No. 6, plays No. 11 Pathfinder in the first round.
Dates and times for all games have yet to be released.
