To the editor of THE EAGLE:
I was pleasantly surprised watching a City Council meeting in which Councilor at large Barry Clairmont was discussing how to make the bidding process for city capital projects more efficient. He noticed many underbid projects coming back to the council for additional funding.
I watched as many argued to keep present policy in place, but Barry persevered, saying that in these times of tight-fiscal budgets the status quo was no way to do business and we owed it to the taxpayers to have bidding policies on high-ticket capital projects that were more efficient and effective to protect the taxpayers from costly overruns.
Barry Clairmont uses his expertise to find common sense solutions to help save the city of Pittsfield money. I urge you to vote for Barry Clairmont, our fiscal watchdog, for city councilor at large on Nov. 5.
