To the editor of THE EAGLE:
The upcoming election in Pittsfield features few competitive races, but the one that matters most to me is the race for City Council at large. In these difficult economic times, it is imperative that we elect councilors with experience in business and finance. My friend Barry Clairmont has proven in his first term to be on top of the city’s financial matters. He reviews budgets and proposals very carefully to save taxpayer money and to be sure that we are getting the biggest bang for our bucks.
Barry is a Pittsfield native and partner of Lombardi, Clairmont, and Keegan, Certified Public Accountants, with his office less than a block from City Hall. He has lived and worked as a CPA and business consultant in Pittsfield since 1989, is a member of the City Council’s Finance subcommittee, and serves as treasurer of the Pittsfield Economic Redevelopment Corp. Through PERC, he was instrumental in obtaining the Berkshire Advanced Manufacturing Study through the UMass Donahue Institute. This study provides a roadmap for local leaders to revive and expand advanced, high-tech manufacturing in the Berkshires. Leaders like Barry Clairmont will work to implement its recommendations.
Barry works with local businesses every day. I am proud to say that he has helped my own business as my accountant for many years. What other candidate could possibly know more about ways to create and retain good jobs in our city? Who could possibly be more informed about budgeting and finding novel ways to get the most out of your tax dollars, and perhaps reduce your tax bill?
I urge you to re-elect the councilor who is best-equipped to protect our money while maintaining vital services, who always does his research, and who is well-prepared for every meeting. Please vote for Barry Clairmont, councilor at large.
