Who doesn't tear up when George Bailey discovers he has a wonderful life? Or laugh out loud at pretty much anything Will Ferrell does while portraying the hyperactive and sweet Buddy, in "Elf?"
In addition to mainstream flicks coming out this time of year, some holiday classics will be shown in the Berkshires, beginning this weekend.
North Adams Movieplex 8
On Saturday and Sunday, the Movieplex 8 will host a special screening of "The Nutcracker in 3D," (2009, rated PG) by Russian director Andrei Konchalovsky, featuring Elle Fanning, Nathan Lane, John Turturro. On Thursday, Dec. 19, and Saturday, Dec. 21, "Bad Santa" (2003, R) will be shown.
The Movieplex 8 will also host the following free community screenings in December. All films start at 11 a.m., and yes, popcorn will still be served: "How the Grinch Stole Christmas," with Jim Carrey (2000, PG) on Saturday, Dec. 7; "Fred Claus," with Vince Vaughn (2007, PG) on Sunday, Dec. 8; "Elf," with Will Ferrell, James Caan (2003, PG) on Saturday, Dec. 14; and National Lampoon's "Christmas Vacation," (1989, PG-13) on Sunday, Dec. 15.
As part of Williamstown's 30th annual Holiday Walk festivities on Sunday, Dec. 8, the theater will present a free screening at 1 p.m. of "Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas" (1993, PG). Mahaiwe Performing Arts Center
On Sunday, Dec. 22, at 7 p.m.
The Mahaiwe will also show "Polar Express," (2004, PG) at 5 p.m. Friday, Dec. 27. Tickets to this screening are $7.
