PITTSFIELD -- As part of the worldwide literacy initiative of Rotary International, the Rotary Club of Pittsfield will be contributing high quality dictionaries to every third grade student in Pittsfield and Richmond for the 10th year, beginning on Monday, Dec. 9.
In October, the Rotary Club of Pittsfield Dictionary Distribution Project ordered 504 dictionaries at a cost of almost $5,000, through a buying consortium of Rotary Clubs in California. The consortium as a whole this year purchased more than 40,000 dictionaries.
Once delivery is complete in December, the Club will have distributed 5,011 dictionaries in Pittsfield and Richmond over the 10 year period, an investment of almost $45,000, plus two "talking dictionaries" for visually impaired students at $500 each.
The distribution schedule is as follows:
Monday, Dec. 9 -- Richmond Consolidated School (9 a.m.); Stearns School (9 a.m.); Conte Community School (10 a.m.); Crosby School (1:35 p.m.).
Tuesday, Dec. 10 -- Morningside Community School (9:50 a.m.); St. Mark School (10 a.m.).
Wednesday, Dec. 11 -- Allendale School (2:30 p.m.).
Thursday, Dec. 12 -- Egremont School (9 a.m.); Williams School (9 a.m.).
Friday Dec. 13 -- Capeless School (10:30 a.m.).
