On Nov. 25, the "Thanksgiving Angels" of the Pittsfield food pantries helped to supply 1,063 families with turkeys and all the fixings for Thanksgiving. Here is a positive example of people helping our city. In this day and age of uncertainty and negative events we felt this letter would highlight why Pittsfield is such a wonderful city in which to live.
There are numerous people to thank for this event being a great success. Many businesses, organizations and individuals donated money to help purchase the necessary items. You know who you are and the list could fill this whole column, so accept a general thank you for your financial gift.
The food pantries from the area contributed as well from their shelves and resources. Staffing for the event came the member pantries was well as students from St. Joseph Central High School. Mayor Daniel Bianchi, state Senator Benjamin Downing, and state Representative Tricia Farley-Bouvier helped with the distribution on Nov. 25.
Thank you is also deserved for the member pantries and their workers: First Congregational Church; Soldier On; St. George Greek Orthodox Church; St. Mark Catholic Church; St. Joseph's Catholic Church; St. Charles Catholic Church; Sacred Heart Catholic Church; The Christian Center; South Congregational Church UCC; First Baptist Church; St. Stephen's Episcopal Church; First United Methodist Church; and the Salvation Army.
The members of the Pittsfield food pantries cannot adequately thank the donors and workers, but know that without you this program would never have reached so many and made a much better holiday for those in need.
When you hear what is wrong with the world, remember that Pittsfield people are a caring group who support and help those in need.
On behalf of the "Thanksgiving Angels" food pantries we wish you a wonderful December and a 2014 filled with all this is good.
