BOSTON (AP) -- Seven inches of snow or more has fallen in parts of southern New England as a plodding storm moves through the region.
The National Weather Service says Torrington, Conn. has 7.5 inches while more than 7 inches was also reported in the northwestern Massachusetts town of Savoy.
Up to 12 inches is possible in areas north of the Massachusetts Turnpike before the storm moves out. Sleet and freezing rain is also expected after daybreak as precipitation tapers off around midday.
Authorities caution drivers to travel only when necessary, reduce speeds well below the posted limits and leave additional space between vehicles.
