PITTSFIELD -- A team of talented little ladies will soon be sashaying down a runway near you.

On Monday night, The Salvation Army on West Street in Pittsfield will transform its gymnasium into a floor for couture fashion, music and dance choreographed and performed by a newly formed youth dance crew called The Illuminators.

Its current members includes girls between the ages of 7 and 13, guided by a team of parents and community volunteers.

Kyle Jafar Allen Ortiz and Shawn Ortiz coordinated the group about three months ago, just in time to appear at the Halloween-themed Third Thursday and the city's Halloween parade.

"We wanted to create something where parents and kids all work together to bring all of their talents to light," Shawn Ortiz said.

Kyle Ortiz said he wants to make sure the girls learn about the opportunities they have.

"It's about learning about becoming ladies, a chance to learn about the arts and scholarships and to give them something to look forward to," he said. The girls are required to meet and practice twice a week after school and keep their grade averages above a C level.

The Illuminators currently includes Crystal Ortiz Styles, 7; Erica Franco, 8; Archia Charles and Yaliana Vergara, both 10; Brianna Figueroa, 11; Shakia Green, 12, and Victoriangelis Hernandez Caraballo, 13. Adult team coaches include Crystal Taylor, Lucy Franco and Clayton Jackson.

Vergara said she likes the group because, "some people just want to express their feelings through dance and song."

"We can show our style," Ortiz Styles said.

"You also get to meet new people and try your own choreography," Charles said.

For Monday night's "Don't Judge Me Fashion Show," all the girls will perform dances to pop, hip-hop and holiday beats, and model fashions by K's Merchandise Clothing Store on North Street, Deidre's on South Street and Unique Style Nails by Michelle Figueroa. Chris Braost worked on props and stage design. Kaso Boys Entertainment created festive wings for the girls to wear during one portion of the runway show.

The group is also sponsored by The Salvation Army, Mary's Carrot Cakes, Berkshire United Way and Kaso Boys Entertainment.
