PITTSFIELD-- One person was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries and two others were later hospitalized after a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of First Street and Orchard Street in Pittsfield late Tuesday afternoon.

A 36-year-old Pittsfield male had to be extricated out of the vehicle by the Pittsfield Fire Department, Pittsfield Police Sgt. Michael Maddalena said. He was transported to Berkshire Medical Center, treated and released. Pittsfield Police Officer Matt Ortega described his injuries as minor.

A 56-year-old female driver of the other vehicle initially declined to be treated, along with her husband. However, both later sought treatment at Berkshire Medical Center, Ortega said.

A nearby utility pole was damaged. Police, fire and emergency services personnel responded to the scene at about 4:54 p.m. The accident is still under investigation and no tickets were handed out at the time of the crash.
