SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (AP) -- A 44-year-old woman injured in a Springfield apartment fire has been brought to Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston for treatment.

Firefighters responded to the woman's apartment off St. James Avenue at about 12:15 a.m. Sunday. Officials say the woman was found in a bedroom and transported to Baystate Medical Center in Springfield to be treated for smoke inhalation.

The Republican of Springfield reports (http://bit.ly/KeZ3Qo ) that the woman was later brought to Mass General. Her name hasn't been released.

Officials believe the fire began in the woman's kitchen. The cause remains under investigation.

The fire damage has been estimated at about $15,000.
