To the editor of THE EAGLE:
I have known Bob Moynihan for more than 40 years as a teacher/colleague and as a parent whose son played baseball for him for four years. I am dismayed that he had to apply for the baseball coaching job after having held the position for 30 years. Other letter writers have expressed that they would like to know the reasons behind this. I would also. I believe it is unprecedented for this to happen in Pittsfield Public Schools.
I was a school adjustment counselor in the Pittsfield schools for many years. Bob had come to me on numerous occasions when he had any concerns about the emotion well-being of one of his players. He wanted answers, resources, to help a student. No other coach ever came to me looking for help for one of their players. This demonstrated to me that Bob Moynihan was more than just concerned about baseball. He cared for his players.
I would like to know how this mess began. Was this instituted by one or two individuals? They had the courage to initiate this, do they have the courage to step forward and explain why? I think not.
Bob Moynihan should definitely be on the PHS sideline in 2014.
