AMHERST (AP) - Amherst Regional High School is set to reopen a day after it was closed following the discovery of an online posting in which a student claimed he routinely brought a gun to school to protect himself against bullies.

Superintendent Maria Geryk and Principal Mark Jackson said the school would reopen Tuesday after police determined there was no threat. A search of the school did not uncover a gun.

Officials say the original posting on a social media website was prompted by racial harassment.

Police say the student who made the posting has been identified, but will not face criminal charges. Police searched the student's home and found a gun, but it was properly secured and there was no evidence it was ever brought to school.

The student faces punishment.
