To the editor of THE EAGLE:
On Sunday, Jan. 26, The Berkshire Eagle featured an article by Jennifer Waters entitled "Before you enroll in Medicare, know the pitfalls." In the article, the author referred consumers to paid Medicare advisers. "You can find advisers like Alllsup through online searches using key words ‘Medicare advisers’. They will charge you a fee that can run anywhere from $250 to more than $1,000."
Elder Services of Berkshire County’s SHINE program (Serving Health Insurance Needs of Everyone) offers unbiased Medicare counseling at no cost to Medicare-eligible consumers. Our team of volunteers and staff are trained in a variety of health insurance topics and are certified to discuss Medicare plans in great detail.
If you are planning to retire in the next few months or need health insurance counseling, please contact SHINE at your local Council on Aging or Elder Services at 499-0524 to talk with a SHINE counselor.
Bonny DiTomasso is Regional SHINE program coordinator and Louisa Weeden is planning and development coordinator for Elder Services of Berkshire County.
