GREAT BARRINGTON -- Visitors to the Berkshire South Regional Community Center on Thursday can enjoy good food and drink -- and help ensure others don't go hungry.

The group will hold its fourth annual Taste of Community fundraiser from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., featuring food and libations from 15 establishments. There will be sampling of exotic meals, locally produced craft brews, and sumptuous desserts.

"For a reasonable price, they can have an enjoyable evening," said John Parker, Berkshire South's director of community and enrichment programs. "It's relaxed; it's not formal,"

In a single dining hall, people will be able to sample macaroni and cheese with smoked chicken from Baba Louie's Pizza and a vegetable antipasto from the Castle Street Cafe. One of Great Barrington's newest restaurants, the Gluten-Free Gourmet Cafe, will bring a South American twist to their cuisine with Peruvian quinoa stew and Brazilian cheese buns.

Tickets are $25 per person in advance and $30 at the door. The proceeds will go to support the center's Community Suppers program, which provides free weekly meals to the community.

"It's supporting a good cause," Parker said. "We served over 4,600 people last year. The main reason we do [the Community Super program] is to build community and allow people to socialize. It's a very appreciated opportunity because it brings people together, especially during the winter time."

In addition to the food, there will also be dessert and free samplings of wine and local beers.

Local breweries that will turn out include Barrington Brewery and Restaurant, Great Barrington; Glass Bottom Brewery, Lee; Big Elm Brewery, Sheffield; and Plaza Package Store, Great Barrington.

For $5, raffle tickets can be purchased to receive one of 21 bottles of wine.

"You might get a really nice bottle of wine," Parker said.

Following recent snowstorms, Parker said people can help a good cause and do some good for themselves.

"There's a lot of cabin fever out there," he said.
