PITTSFIELD -- A Rhode Island man charged with causing a fatal crash last November remains held on $25,000 bail after being arraigned in Berkshire Superior Court.
William Lowe, 34, or Pawtucket, appeared in front of Judge John Agostini and pleaded not guilty to vehicular homicide by negligent operation while under the influence of alcohol.
Lowe, who has been in jail since November, also faces a charge of being in possession of an open container of alcohol, speeding and failure to stay within unmarked lanes.
He was originally arrested after the Nov. 24 accident by Williamstown police while he was at Berkshire Medical Center.
Lowe allegedly was speeding in his Ford Explorer on Cold Spring Road in front of Mount Greylock High School when he crossed the center line and struck a Hyundai Elantra driven by Lawrence George, 64, of Pownal. George was pronounced dead at the scene.
Lowe also had a female passenger with him, who sustained non-life threatening injuries.
Agostini remanded Lowe back to Berkshire County Jail & House of Correction in lieu of $25,000 bail. He is due back in court on April 15 for a pre-trial conference.
