GREAT BARRINGTON -- The Monument Mountain Regional High School Band and Jazz Ensemble, both under the direction of Jeffrey Stevens, along with guest artist Livingston Taylor, will perform at 8 p.m. on Friday at the Mahaiwe Performing Arts Center.
This event not only serves as the school's 31st annual Pops Concert, but it is part of the music department's celebration of March as national "Music in Our Schools Month."
Taylor, Monument's guest artist, is an acclaimed singer-songwriter and recording artist who has toured with the likes of Linda Ronstadt, Jimmy Buffett and Fleetwood Mac. He is a full-time professor at Berklee College of Music, where he has taught a stage performance course since 1989.
On Friday, Taylor will share the stage with both the Monument Mountain Jazz Ensemble and Concert Band. He will sing classic American music by Cole Porter, Harold Arlen and others, as well as singing some of his own compositions.
The Jazz Ensemble will be playing the music of Blood Sweat and Tears, Tower of Power, Marvin Gaye, Gordon Goodwin, and Carlos Santana. The Concert Band will be performing works by Gershwin, Bernstein and will feature the music from the band Chicago.
Tickets are $15 and are available at the Mahaiwe Box Office. All proceeds go to help support music in the schools. For more information, visit mahaiwe.org or call (413) 528-0100.
