PITTSFIELD -- Two suspected drug dealers who led police on a high-speed chase remained in custody on Monday after pleading not guilty to numerous charges.
Ariel Camacho, 27, of New York City, and Grace M. Stanley, 25, of Cliff Street, North Adams, were arrested after a brief chase on Feb. 21, according to North Adams police. They allegedly had 125 small bags and one large bag of crack cocaine, two bags of heroin, and 41 oxycodone pills.
Police say they tried to pull Camacho over after receiving information that one of his passengers had trespassed at Walmart on Curran Highway in North Adams. Camacho failed to stop for police, blew through the intersection of Miner and Union streets nearly causing an accident and reached speeds in excess of 70 mph before being taken into custody on Cliff Street, according to a police report.
The drugs were allegedly found in the vehicle following the stop and Camacho, Stanley and a third defendant, Charles E. Crisp III, of Beaver Street, North Adams, were arrested.
Camacho, appearing with attorney Richard D. LeBlanc, pleaded not guilty in Berkshire Superior Court on Monday to 11 charges, including second-offense cocaine distribution, oxycodone trafficking, conspiracy, possession of heroin and several charges related to the alleged chase.
Judge John A. Agostini ordered Camacho held at the Berkshire County Jail & House of Correction on $50,000 cash or $500,000 surety bail.
Stanley, who also uses the last name Sprague, denied six charges, including trafficking in oxycodone, second-offense cocaine distribution and possession of heroin, among other alleged crimes.
Agostini ordered her held in lieu of $7,500 cash or $75,000 surety bail.
Crisp, who is facing charges of possession of heroin and being present where heroin is kept, is scheduled to be arraigned in Superior Court on March 25.
The investigation was conducted by members of the North Adams Police Department. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant Berkshire District Attorney Gregory Berry.
