PITTSFIELD -- Pittsfield firefighters quickly extinguished a Saturday night house fire at 66 Elizabeth St.
Flames broke out at the single-family home around 8:30 p.m., according to Deputy Fire Chief Keith Phillips.
"As far as we can tell it started on the second floor and got up into the attic," Phillips said.
When firemen arrived, flames were venting from one roof corner. The responders controlled the blaze within 30 minutes, Phillips said.
At 10 p.m, the department's fire investigators were at the scene attempting to determine the cause of the fire. The occupants of home, who were not present when the fire began, had been notified.
Phillips said the family will probably have to seek shelter elsewhere because of the fire damage.
