PITTSFIELD -- Berkshire County’s unemployment rate remained virtually unchanged in February, except in the city of North Adams where it dropped more than half a percentage point.

Unemployment in North Adams fell to 8.7 percent in February from 9.4 percent the previous month, according to state figures that were released on Tuesday.

The jobless rate in the Northern Berkshire labor market also declined significantly, falling to 7.9 percent from the 8.4 percent registered in January.

The county’s unemployment rate dropped a tenth of a percentage point in February to 7.4 percent. County unemployment was 7.6 percent in February 2013.

State unemployment is 6.5 percent, while the national unemployment rate is 6.7 percent.

The figures released by the state Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development on Tuesday are not seasonally adjusted, which means they take into account seasonal construction jobs and positions in the travel and tourism industry.
