NORTH ADAMS -- A Pittsfield man has been sentenced to 2 1/2 years in jail for stealing an idling car from the parking lot of a North Adams gas station.
Kevin Marshall, 43, of Lincoln Street, got into an unoccupied Mazda SUV at the Ashland Street Cumberland Farms earlier this month, according to a police report filed by North Adams Police Officer Nicholas Richards. Security footage showed Marshall checking the doors of several cars in the lot before finding the unlocked Mazda.
Williamstown Police caught up with Marshall about an hour after the theft on Main Street. He was arrested and also charged with having an open container of alcohol in a motor vehicle, according to the police report.
Court documents indicated this was Marshall's his seventh conviction for larceny of a motor vehicle.
He pleaded guilty in Northern Berkshire District Court on Monday to charges of motor vehicle larceny, subsequent offense, and unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, subsequent offense, and was sentenced to 2 1/2 years in the Berkshire Jail & House of Correction.
