PITTSFIELD -- Pittsfield police have been busy lately, responding to a rash of break-ins of unlocked cars.
In the last three days, more than a half dozen burglaries have been reported, with the most recent all occurring in the same general area of the city.
On Tuesday at 10:11 a.m., the Spring Street owner of a Toyota Tacoma reported that somebody entered into their unlocked vehicle overnight and took an undisclosed amount of cash, Pittsfield Police Capt. John Mullin said.
At 10:21 a.m., police received a report from a resident of Weller Avenue, who said somebody entered into their unlocked Toyota Highlander and took an undisclosed amount of cash, Mullin said.
At 1:01 p.m., police received a call about two unlocked vehicles on Springside Avenue which somebody had reportedly gone through, though nothing was taken, Mullin said.
On Wednesday, at 6:49 a.m., the Ensign Avenue owner of an unlocked Jeep told police that somebody went into their unlocked vehicle and took off with a wallet.
Police also responded to Springside Avenue on Wednesday morning for a report of somebody taking cash and compact discs from an unlocked vehicle.
In addition, police responded to two break-ins on Tyler Street, including a report of an iPhone and undisclosed amount of cash being taken from an unlocked Ford Probe on Tyler Street, Mullin said.
The owner of an unlocked Saturn parked on Tyler Street Wednesday morning reported cash and a cell charger missing.
At 8:16 a.m., police received a report of a motor vehicle broken into on Fourth Street, though no information was immediately available on that case, Mullin said.
On Thursday at 8:37 a.m., police responded to Lenox Avenue for a report of a vehicle which had been broken into.
The incidents follow a series of break-ins last week into locked and unlocked vehicles in Pittsfield on the streets of Backman Avenue, Euclid Avenue and Merriam Street in the same neighborhood.
