To the editor of THE EAGLE:
While I agree with letter writer Charles Steinhacker’s April 9 sentiment regarding the ubiquitous commercial assaults, I fear that there is little which can be done thanks to the recent machinations of the U.S. Supreme Court in the Citizens United and McCutcheon, et al. cases.
Since the company involved is a corporation it has all the rights that any individual has except the latter case gives way more rights to those who have way more money. Mr. Steinhacker’s freedom of speech is represented by writing a letter to the editor. The afore alluded to company’s freedom of speech is equivalent to an entire newspaper with nothing but their advertisements in it.
If this were to be extrapolated to the political arena the implications could be HUGE!
