PITTSFIELD -- Pittsfield police who were in the process of investigating a missing cat ended up hauling in five bags of heroin and oxycodone pills.
A police officer responded Monday morning to Union Street after a woman claimed a neighbor stole her cat. Police questioned the neighbor, who denied stealing the cat, according to a police report.
After leaving that scene, the police officer spotted Peru resident Shaun Ellsworth, 31, who was wanted on a warrant, walking on the street.
While taking Ellsworth into custody, the officer asked him if he had any weapons or needles on him.
Ellsworth admitted to having five bags of heroin. At the police station, police allegedly found an additional 18 oxycodone pills in Ellsworth’s belongings.
Ellsworth was charged with two counts of drug possession and arraigned in front of Judge Fredric Rutberg in Central Berkshire District Court on Tuesday. Rutberg released Ellsworth on his own personal recognizance pending a future court date.
