To the editor of THE EAGLE:
On May 5, there will be a vote at the annual town meeting in Hancock regarding where our middle and high schoolers go to school. Article 16 on the town warrant will ask us to send our students to middle and high school at New Lebanon Junior/Senior High School or BOCES (Board of Cooperative Educational Services) in New York. We currently have the option of sending our children to Mount Greylock, McCann Tech, or New Lebanon. This vote takes away the option of sending our children to a school in this state.
We, as students and parents, are essentially casting our vote every year when we choose where to have our children educated. There are currently no families on the north end of Hancock who choose to send their children over the state line to New Lebanon.
It is so important to get to the town meeting and vote. Let’s continue to give our children the option to choose which school is best for them and vote no on Article 16.
The letter was also signed by Josephine P. Nicholson and Thomas W. Nicholson, Erica J. and Gene L. Wetherell, Marc Angelini, Rebecca and Kevin Leonard and Liza Barrett and Paul Barrett, all of Hancock.
