LEE -- A Connecticut motorcyclist faces multiple dangerous weapon charges following a traffic stop in Lee on Saturday.

Curtis Godfrey, 52, of Winsted, was arrested by state police after he was pulled over with a fellow motorcyclist in Lee on Route 20.

State police allegedly made the stop after observing the two stopped on their Harley-Davidson's at the intersection of Maple Street and Route 20, when the two men pulled onto the road, one of them without signaling.

A trooper noticed Godfrey wearing the colors of an outlaw motorcycle gang "Connecticut Valley Riders," he noted in his report. His vest bore a ball peen hammer, which indicated to the trooper that the man was carrying one or more weapons.

After allegedly noticing a knife in a sheath on Godfrey's hip attached to a leather belt with a metallic spike, the trooper asked Godfrey to step off of his motorcycle to be searched.

He uncovered two canisters of pepper spray, which are illegal to carry without a firearms identification card in Massachusetts. Godfrey said he believed he didn't need one, stating that they are legal to carry in Connecticut. He was charged with possession of ammunition without an identification card as a result.

The trooper seized a leather wristband with metallic spikes from the handlebar of the motorcycle, resulting in a possession of a dangerous weapon charge. Godfrey was also hit with a possession of a dangerous weapon charge for the spiked belt.

The trooper uncovered several other knives in two leather jackets Godfrey was wearing. The knives turned out to be legal to carry.

Also seized was a canister containing prescription pills which allegedly included Hydrocodone. Godfrey was charged with drug possession for not having a prescription with him for the pills.

Godfrey was arraigned in Southern Berkshire District Court on Thursday and released on his own personal recognizance pending a pre-trial conference on May 28.

The other driver was issued a citation for failing to signal.
