GREAT BARRINGTON -- A three-foot wide section of the stone retaining wall on North Plain Road collapsed early Friday morning.

The Great Barrington DPW responded immediately by securing the area and cleaning up the debris. The DPW placed concrete barriers along the area to prevent material from falling into the road. There was no damage to the roadway and both lanes of traffic remained open.

According to Town Manager Jennifer Tabakin, funds to repair and replace the wall were allocated at this year’s annual town meeting. The DPW will expedite the design and repair work, slated originally to start in July.
