NORTH ADAMS -- Three people were arrested on drug charges Monday morning after police served a search warrant at an apartment in the North Adams Housing Authority building at 45 Spring St.
Damien E. Rodriguez of Fall River was charged with possession of a Class B drug, subsequent offense. During his arraignment Monday afternoon, he pleaded not guilty and was ordered held at the Berkshire House of Correction in lieu of $35,000 surety bond.
Alison Michelle Pike-Devio, a resident of the apartment, and Cheryl A. Plouffe, a neighbor, were released on personal recognizance after pleading not guilty to possession of a Class B drug.
North Adams Police Director Michael Cozzaglio said city police and the Berkshire County Law Enforcement Group executed the warrant as part of an ongoing investigation. Tips from concerned neighbors in the building helped lead investigators to the location, he said.
"Some of the other tenants were upset by this," he said. "They knew something was going on there, so we started our investigation and this is what it led to."
An "insignificant" amount of crack cocaine was seized during the search, Cozzaglio said. But the investigation had already gathered enough evidence to get the search warrant based on probable cause, he said.
"We’re keeping the pressure up to slow down this infection of drug distribution and drug abuse throughout the region," he said.
