HINSDALE -- Two area residents are facing drug charges for allegedly bringing heroin into Berkshire County from Holyoke, state police said Monday night.

Around 2:30 p.m. on Monday, members of the Berkshire County Drug Task Force and troopers from the Cheshire barracks said they had probable cause to stop a 2002 Volkswagen Passat on Route 8 near the Home Club Bar. Upon searching the vehicle, police found 180 bags of heroin with a street value of $3,600, along with drug paraphernalia. They immediately arrested the driver, 26-year-old Alicia Gattuso of Hinsdale, and Jeffrey Deeley, 33, from Adams and charged each with one count of possession to distribute heroin and conspiracy to violate state drug laws.

Both suspects are being held on $10,000 cash bail in the Berkshire County Jail & House of Correction pending their arraignment this morning in Central Berkshire District Court.
