PITTSFIELD -- A city man police say was one of several people who shot two juveniles last June is scheduled to go to trial next month.

Vincent C. Jennings, 24, and three other unidentified men allegedly shot two juvenile males, aged 14 and 17, at the First Street Common about 4 a.m. June 16, 2013, according to police and prosecutors.

One of the teens suffered a shattered pelvis and internal injuries after being shot in the buttocks and the other teen was shot in the leg. They were treated at Berkshire Medical Center for their injuries and were later released.

Jennings was allegedly one of a group of eight people wearing black hooded sweatshirts who were hanging out at the park just prior to the shooting.

A witness told police that although it was dark, they recognized Jennings when his face was lit up by a muzzle flash from his pistol.

Police said they recovered shell casings from the scene.

Jennings was originally charged with two counts of felony aggravated assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and single counts of felony carrying a firearm without a license and misdemeanor discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a dwelling. Two counts of armed assault to murder were added to the list of charges during grand jury proceedings.

He has denied the charges.

Jennings appeared with his privately retained attorney, William A. Rota, for a final pretrial conference on Thursday in Berkshire Superior Court.

Assistant Berkshire District Attorney Joseph Yorlano, standing in for prosecutor Paul J. Caccaviello, told the court they were planning to try the case in July, but that there had been discussions between the parties about resolving the case short of trial.

Judge John A. Agostini said the case could get pushed back to September, the next month on the criminal calendar, due to the number of trials already scheduled for July.

Jennings remains free on $10,000 cash or $100,000 surety bail.

No other arrests had been made in connection with the shootings.
